About the website: The left picture set on the home page is Saddle Mountain as described in the Emory report.  The right picture set is the "Needle's Eye" described by members of the Bartlett expedition (see "Canyon on the Gila").  The map behind the menu strip at the left side of each page is a portion of "Map of the Military Department of New Mexico in 1864" from the "Atlas to Accompany the Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies, 1861-1865".  The map used to illustrate each explorer's travels is S.A. Mitchell's 1867 "Arizona and New Mexico."  Quotations and photographs from present-day authors used by permission.  This site was designed  using Microsoft Front Page and Adobe Photoshop.  Valuable consultation and assistance was provided by Holly Jonas.  All photographs by Tom Jonas unless otherwise noted.
