Richard Pinkerton's Letter of Resignation
from the Arizona Board on Geographic and Historic Names
This is the text of Pinkerton's letter of resignation dated April 17, 2003 as read into the record by Lloyd Clark at the board meeting on that date:
"Due to several occurrences during the past several days from without and within this Board effecting its autonomy and integrity, I feel that my serving as a member is no longer worth the effort. The Board was created as a State Board not subject to the Governor's beck and call. Also there have been implied threats from within the board's membership that I should sacrifice and prostitute my integrity in the interest of satisfying a certain political venue. Nothing of this nature has occurred relating to this Board in the 13 years since its creation. Therefore I do hereby submit my resignation effective immediately."
