MY IMAGE QUALITY IS POOR AND MY INK IS PILING...

Machines this applies to: All Ryobi and Itek duplicators and presses.

If the ink on your rollers looks good yet you have an image quality problem you may have a roller pressure problem or worn rollers.  However, if your quality problem is accompanied by piling (too much ink) and/or stripping (bare or thin areas) on the rollers you probably have a glaze or contamination problem.  I recommend that you deglaze the press with a good deglazer such as Accel's Compound-X or Anchor's Enviropaste.  Deglaze every day for 2 weeks and be sure to finish each cleaning with a hot water rinse. If your rollers are glazed or contaminated there is nothing your service tech can adjust to make it go away so try deglazing before you call.

Things to avoid:

  • Avoid using oily water-miscible washes such as Varn V-120, especially on duplicators with integrated dampeners.  They leave behind residues that change the ink characteristics and cause ink piling.
  • If you must use spray adhesive to stick your plate to the cylinder be very careful that none of it gets into the rollers.  It will contaminate the rollers and it takes many wash-ups to get it all out again.
  • Do not use rubber rejuvenator to clean rollers.  It will severely shorten their life.

If two weeks of deglazing doesn't improve or eliminate the problem...
