THE SHUTTER IS NOT
OPENING...
Machines this applies to: Itek
430 & 435
The most likely cause of this is a
broken shutter spring. Here's how to fix it.
- On newer 430 cameras with LCD
displays remove the small cover mounted just inside the lens recess and
disconnect both of the connectors inside.
- On all models, remove the lens unit
from the camera by unscrewing the three small knobs located around the lens
recess. Support the lens unit while doing this so it doesn't fall and damage
something when you get it loose.
- On older 430 and 435 cameras
disconnect the coil cord from the back of the lens unit.
- Take the lens unit to a convenient
work surface.
- On older models the shutter is
mounted on the back of the lens: remove the 4 screws holding the shutter
assembly to the back of the lens unit. On newer models the shutter is
on the front of the lens inside the lens recess: remove the 4 nuts holding
the shutter assembly.
- On all models, turn the shutter
assembly over so you can see inside. You'll probably find that a small
spring which connects two moving parts has broken. Form a new end and
reconnect the spring.
- Remount the shutter assembly to the
lens unit. On the front mounted shutters this can be a little tricky
because you must be sure that you don't pinch any wires between the two
assemblies when you put the shutter unit in. It's easier to manage the
wires if you manually open the shutter blades and hold the wires by putting
your fingers through the shutter opening.
- Reassemble the lens unit to the
camera and reconnect the cables.
