MY PUMP WON'T RUN...
Machines this applies to: 2800,
3200, 3200MCD, 960, 975, 985
- Newer models of the 3200/975/985 are
equipped with a switch at the top of the delivery table support chain on the
non-operator side of the chain delivery. Its purpose is to stop the
paper feed (by shutting off the pump) if the delivery table gets too low.
Many times this switch gets gummed up with oil and powder and will no longer
reset itself when the table is cranked back up. If the pump was
running fine but fails to run after you stop to unload the delivery dolly
this may be your problem. If your switch fails just unplug the
connector and tuck it through the hole in the frame. The press will
run fine and the switch can be repaired at a more convenient time.
- Be sure the pump switch is off and
see if you can turn the pump pulley at the bottom of the press by hand.
If the pump is very difficult to turn you may be able to free it up by doing
the following:
- Remove the filter jar and filter
just inside the access panel below the feed table.
- Squirt some WD-40 into the hole
that is next to the filter mounting screw in the filter assembly.
- Immediately try to turn the pump
by hand again with the switch off.
- If this loosens it up try
turning the switch on again.
- Once you get the motor running
squirt some light oil (10-20 wt.) up into the same hole. The oil
is very important - if you don't do this the pump will probably seize
up. Remember, WD-40 is not a lubricant.
- Reinstall the filter and
jar.
- You may want to do a complete
pump flush at a convenient time.
